Athenian walkways

Ancient and contemporary Athens highlights walking tour

Join me for a walk and experience the historical center of the city like a true Athenian. Be immersed into the sights, smells and sounds of Athens and discover all about its history, its fascinating contrasts, its vibrant pulse at the most popular places.

Over 2500 years of Athenian history unfold in front of your eyes: Greek and Roman ruins, medieval churches, Ottoman mosques, neoclassical and contemporary edifices, busy squares, street art and colourful markets. You get a comprehensive look at the city, the way it has been planned and evolved, especially during the 20th and 21st century. And above all, you get the insider's view on the life of its people.

This is a well-balanced walking tour, on and off the beaten track, in historical districts and downtown Athens.
It can be customised in order to meet your needs and expectations as it's addressed to first time visitors but also to veteran travellers of our city, wishing to decipher more of its amazing past and challenging present.

ITINERARY

We meet at the Acropolis metro station to start our Athens discovery: the Acropolis, the theatre of Dionysos, the colourful alleys of the old town district (Plaka)with the elegant neoclassical edifices, the picturesque byzantine chapels, the street cafes next to the ancient ruins consist one of the most fascinating parts of the city.

We get by the Ancient and the Roman Agora before we get to the Flea market area at Monastiraki square. Contemporary architecture meets antiquity in side streets and main boulevards as we get to the modern heart of the city: Syntagma square, the Memorial to the Unknown soldier and the House of Parliament is where we close our tour.
